Tequila Spectator Ratings for Brand Owners

Tequila Spectator is dedicated to recognizing exceptional tequilas and connecting them with serious enthusiasts and professionals. Our ratings are conducted with care, transparency, and respect for the work behind every bottle.

Below you’ll find information on how our rating system works, how to submit your tequila, and how results are published.

Fees & Rating Timeline

No Fees to Submit

Tequila Spectator does not charge any fees to review or rate a tequila. All evaluations are conducted independently by our Certified Tequila Catadores (Experto en Tequila).

Monthly Rating Cycle

Tequilas are reviewed monthly. All qualified submissions are evaluated in a timely manner, and we strive to complete the rating process within 30–45 days of receiving the tequila bottle and required information.

How Tequilas Are Rated

All tequilas submitted to Tequila Spectator are evaluated by Certified Tequila Catadores (Experto en Tequila).

Our ratings are based on a 100-point scale. Only tequilas that score 90 points or higher qualify to be published in the Tequila Spectator Ratings section.

Publication of Ratings

  • Only tequilas rated 90 points or higher will be published on the Ratings section of Tequila Spectator.

  • Tequilas that score below 90 points will not be published in the Ratings section, and no rating number will be issued publicly or to the submitter.

  • All submitted tequilas,  including those that did not rate 90 points,  may be featured in other sections of TequilaSpectator.com, such as News & Articles, at the discretion of our editorial team.

Notification of Results

After the rating process is complete:

  • If your tequila scores 90 points or higher, the submitter will be notified via email with the rating attained.

  • If your tequila scores below 90 points, the submitter will be informed that the submission scored below 90 points.

    • No specific rating number (score) will be provided.

    • The tequila will not appear in the Ratings section.

Right to Request Removal

The submitter retains the right to request removal of their product (tequila) from the Ratings section of Tequila Spectator at any time.

Please note: while ratings content may be removed from the Ratings section upon request, Tequila Spectator reserves the right to retain and use previously created editorial content (such as news or articles) in accordance with our general terms and policies All removal request are at the discretion of Tequila Spectator and are not guaranteed.

Rights Granted to Tequila Spectator

By submitting a tequila for rating, the submitter grants Tequila Spectator the right to use any images, logos, product descriptions, and/or text provided or publicly available for purposes of:

  • Ratings

  • Articles

  • Editorial features

  • Social media posts

  • Promotional or educational materials related to Tequila Spectator

This ensures we can accurately present and represent the product.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for rating by Tequila Spectator:

  1. Commercially available

    • The tequila must be commercially available in the US or Mexico.

  2. Bottle Size

    • All bottles submitted must be standard commercially available sizes of 750 ml or greater.

    • Samples that are not standard commercial presentation sizes will not be accepted for rating.

Re-Rating Opportunities

If your tequila scores below 90 points, you may re-submit a new bottle for a future rating if you believe:

  • The product has improved,

  • A new batch or lot better represents the tequila, or

  • Changes in production, aging, or blending warrant a re-evaluation.

Each re-submission is treated as a new rating request and follows the same process and eligibility requirements.

How to Submit Your Tequila

The submission process consists of two parts:

1. Mail Your Tequila Bottle(s)

Send your eligible tequila bottle(s) (750 ml or larger) to the shipping address:

Please ensure bottles are securely packaged to prevent damage in transit.

2. Provide Product Information

You may provide product information in the following way:​

  • Email the required details to:
    Teamup@TequilaSpectator.com

Suggested information to include:

  • Brand name

  • Expression (Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo, etc.)

  • ABV (% alcohol)

  • NOM and CRT registration details

  • Distillery location

  • Batch / Lot (if applicable)

  • Suggested retail price

  • Website and social media links

  • Brand Logo (for a black and white background)

  • Bottle images (for publication consideration) 

  • Product description and any additional information

  • Contact name, email, and phone number for notifications
