La Fuente Cantina aka “La Bicicleta” (The Bicycle) has over 90 years of history, founded in 1921 and considered one of the most traditional bars in Guadalajara Mexico.
 
The décor of the bar is retro and reminded us of the golden era of Mexican Cinema. At this bar, we can truly say that all men and women are treated equally, no matter of their position or economic status. Don’t expect the bar to be a nightclub or a swanky LA bar, but do expect a trip back into the past. The bar features live music.
 
Instruments played during our visit included a piano, a trumpet, and the voice of a passionate singer.
If the walls could speak, who knows how many stories they would tell. But there is no other story as famous or told as often as the one of “La Bicicleta” (The Bicycle).
 
One of the most famous versions is, that a man sat at the bar all night and ran up his Tequila tab. After not being able to pay, he left his bicycle behind as collateral till he returned with payment. The second version is, that a frequent customer (rumored to be a Professor) visited the bar one night and got drunk as usual.
 
But this day, after drinking for some time, he felt sick. By the end of the night, he had decided to leave his bicycle behind and have a carriage take him home. After that night, he was never seen again. All the variations of La Bicicleta story have two things in common, it occurred in the mid-1950s and someone left the bicycle at the bar.
 
La Bicicleta now sits as the major centerpiece located above the bar and no matter the story told, the bicycle still awaits the owner's return. Local Bar patrons go as far as to say that the owner still
visits the bar, in spirit.
